The Akarua vineyard is a unique site, measuring 52 hectares, 34.5 of which planted with vines. The estate is tucked into the foothills of the mountains rising above Kawarua River upstream of Lack Dunstan, in the midst of a breathtaking landscape. Located in Bannockburn in the Central Otago region, the vineyard occupies three west-facing terraces and enjoys intense sun all year round. This outstanding terroir lends remarkable character to the Pinot Noir in a reflection of the spectacular mountains surrounding the estate. Floral and spicy, it has a nose of raspberries and blackcurrant, while the pallet derives of black cherry.

Aromas of orange blossom, nectarine and fresh nutmeg combine with delicate layers of subtly integrated oak, fine minerality and ripe citrus fruit flavours. Delicate elegance underpins this finely textured wine which reflects Peregrine's commitment to organic wine growing on the Bendigo sub region that contribute to this Chardonnay.

Ruby port is all about youthful fruit and flavour intensity, and this port delivers perfectly. The nose is ripe and lifted displaying blackberry, raisin and spice characters. The palate is supple and rich with fine tannins and a lovely warm alcohol finish.

A seductive combination of blackberries, blueberries and sweet black plums intermingled with roasted chestnuts, cloves and dark tobacco - rich and exotic with hints of lavender and rose petal. The palate is generous with ripe fruit, fine tannins and a delicious spicy finish.

Dow's Fine Ruby was aged in seasoned oak casks at our lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia for an average of 3 years, and bottled when ready to drink. Exuberant youthful fruit flavours make it perfect for informal drinking.

Ruby Ports are a blend of young, vibrant wines from different harvests. They are kept for an average of two to three years in oak vats before they are blended, fined and bottled ready to enjoy. Tawny Ports are a blend of young wines from various harvests, are kept for an average of two to three years in casks. They are lighter in colour than Ruby Ports and combine the fruitiness of young wines and the nuttiness derived from the maturation in seasoned oak casks. Wild raspberry, blueberry, cracked pepper and hints of vanilla bean show on the nose. Powerful and balanced ripe tannins give the wine great savoury structure.

Tawny Ports are wines made from grapes that are aged in wooden barrels, exposing them to gradual oxidation and evaporation. As a result, they gradually mellow to a golden brown colour

Dow's Tawny is a very fine and delicate style, with pretty red fruits balanced by nutty depth derived from an average of three years aging in small oak casks. Owned by the historic and also very modern Symington family stable of Ports, the Dow's has both pedigree and sheer quality on its side.

Fonseca Tawny spends three years ageing in small wooden casks, generally holding about 630 litres. As it matures in cask, Tawny Port gradually loses the deep red 'ruby' colour of youth and takes on the seductive amber hue known as 'tawny'.
