The wine is not heavy or fat on the palate, but rather the palate has tremendous length in addition to the raspberry, cherry, peach, herbal, citrus and mineral core.

The la collina vineyard is a steep, terraced and incline planted hillside vineyard on the North/Northwest facing slopes of Roys Hill, west of Hastings, Hawke's Bay. The hillside is protected from the cooling effects of the southerly winds and during the growing season the vine-yard is bathed in sunshine. The hillside terraces are planted to Syrah (and a few other interesting Varieties) whilst the lower slopes and Gravels flat are planted to Chardonnay and Viognier/Marsanne/Roussanne. The 2021 growing season was the third leg of a Hawke's Bay winning trifecta; dry and warm and all round, a great season. The fruit was hand harvested in perfect condition over two days in early April. The perfect condition of the fruit allowed for the inclusion of some whole bunches in the fermentation. The wine was fermented in open top fermenta-tion vessels, pressed at dryness and transferred to barriques where the wine remained for 20 months.

Lemon straw with green hue. Citrus, fig and toasty oak. A hint of complexity and a struck match flintiness. A full palate texture, with a spicy oak influence and seamless finish.

Aromas of blackberry, ripe plum and cassis lift from the glass, layered with subtle smoky oak spice. The palate is youthful and plush, showing ripe, rounded fruit, fine tannin texture and a gentle line of soft acidity. Utterly moreish, it draws you straight back for another sip.

Bold and elegant, the Back Block Syrah has pepper, spice, plum, and succulent ripe tannins. The dark magenta colour immediately suggests it from a very good vintage and the flavours are ripe. The Back Block Syrah is one of Brookfields most popular wines - do enjoy!

The Bergman Chardonnay is a full bodied bold Chardonnay. Stonefruit, melon, vanilla, biscuit and elegant oak all contribute to this complex wine which is totally barrel fermented.

Rich in cigar box, plum and spice, the palate exhibits good length and depth of flavour. Softer tannins make the Hawke's Bay Merlot Malbec very approachable.
