Structurally, the wine leads with beautiful fruit weight and richness across the mid palate, typical of good Hawke's Bay Merlot. Intense dark colour red with purple edge. Ripe blackberry and blueberry characters, cedar-wood and liquorice. Soft, rich, mouth coating, balanced tannin, hints of classic Cabernet, authentically Heathcote.

The Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon, first released in 2001, has been inspired by the great cricketing history of this vineyard. The wines consistently show great line and length. The nose leads with aromas of fresh tobacco leaf, cassis, boysenberry and spice. A silk like entry on the palate with super fine, detailed tannin, ripe berried fruits, a hint of tobacco and the classic brambles of Clare Cabernet to finish.

Lifted aromas of fresh blueberry, crushed stone, brown spice and clove lead into a rich and succulent palate framed with a core of fine tannin and a long lingering finish. 2016 Ironclad is a classic Cabernet franc and Merlot dominant blend, totally appealing in its youth but developing more savoury notes with time and always rewarding careful cellaring.
