Born from a "Red Winemaking Trial" that began in the early 1990s, Penfolds RWT Bin 798 Shiraz has long since outgrown its experimental beginnings to become a benchmark for contemporary Barossa Valley Shiraz. The 2024 vintage showcases the style with layers of blackberry, mulberry and blackcurrant, woven through exotic spice, violet, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and savoury olive notes. Plush and velvety across the palate, fine, mouth-coating tannins provide structure and impressive length, while French oak adds depth and poise. A Penfolds classic that has never needed to follow fashion, St Henri has remained remarkably true to its original style since its first commercial vintage in 1957. Unlike many of Australia's great reds, it relies on no new oak, instead maturing in large, seasoned vats that allow the Shiraz to develop with minimal interference. The result is a wine where fruit, savoury character and structure take centre stage. The 2023 vintage is brooding and layered, revealing dark and blue fruits alongside dark spice and lightly roasted coffee. As the wine opens, mineral and savoury notes emerge, with hints of flint, ironstone, fresh nettles and oolong tea adding intrigue and depth. Juicy and generous on the palate, the wine carries a deep core of dark fruit balanced by the umami character of rare steak and olive brine. Finely woven tannins provide a firm, assured structure, while notes of Chinese tea, fennel and liquorice add detail through the long, restrained finish. 2023 St Henri combines youthful generosity with the structure to evolve beautifully in the cellar through to 2050.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon parcels sourced from vineyards throughout the Barossa. The fruit is fermented for up to 14 days, then aged for 12 months in a mix of French and American oak. Individual parcels of fruit are matured separately to maximise the blend's complexity and finalised through a selection process. The resulting wine is rich and concentrated with aromas of ripe dark berry fruits, blackcurrants and plums with mint and varietal leafy notes. The palate is plush with flavours balanced by fine, textural tannins.

The wine has a lifted bouquet of black cherry, violets, plum and all enhanced by hints of cedary oak. The concentrated palate exhibits boysenberry, red currant and fine grain textured tannins. Will age well with careful cellaring.
